Baker Hughes: Canada drops 56 rigs for the week

Canada has dropped 56 rigs for the week ended Mar. 22, according to Baker Hughes data. With 105 rigs running, the count is less than the 161 units drilling this week a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada fell by 49, bringing the count to 49 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs were down 7 to 56 units.

Canada has dropped 56 rigs for the week ended Mar. 22, according to Baker Hughes data. With 105 rigs running, the count is less than the 161 units drilling this week a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada fell by 49, bringing the count to 49 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs were down 7 to 56 units.

The US drilling rig count, meanwhile, fell 10 units to 1,016 rigs working for the week. The count is up 21 units from the 995 rigs working this time a year ago.

At 993 rigs working, 8 fewer units were drilling on land week-over-week. The number of offshore units drilling fell by 2 to 20 units for the week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters remained unchanged at 3 rigs working for the week.

US oil-directed rigs dropped 9 units from last week to 824 units working but remained up from the 804 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were down by a single unit at 192, and up from the 190 units drilling for gas a year ago.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, three states saw a single-unit gain: North Dakota, 57; Pennsylvania, 48; and Ohio, 14.

Five states were unchanged this week: Wyoming, 36; Colorado, 34; California, 15; Utah, 8; and Arkansas, 0.

With 4 fewer units drilling week over week, Texas saw the largest decrease in rigs to reach 497. Louisiana’s rig count fell by 3 units to 62. Oklahoma and New Mexico dropped 2 rigs each to reach respective rig counts of 109 and 104. Each with a single-unit drop for the week, West Virginia’s rig count was 18 for the week, while Alaska had 9 rigs running.
