Mol Norge has plugged exploration well 2/6-6S, which was targeting the Oppdal-Driva prospect in production license 860 in the North Sea. Both targets were dry.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,576 m and 3,843 m measured depth subsea with Rowan Cos.’ Rowan Viking N-class jack up rig 45 km east of Valhall and Ekofisk fields and 20 km north of the Norwegian-Danish border in the Mandal High area in 69 m of water (OGJ Online, Aug. 24, 2018). It was terminated in the Rotliegend group.

The primary and secondary exploration targets for the well were to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Paleocene and in the Permian (Intra Vale formation sandstone and the Rotliegend group, respectively).

The well encountered a 34-m sandstone layer in the Intra Vale formation with good reservoir quality. In the Rotliegend group, the well encountered 105 m with relatively tight sandstone. It encountered the expected Paleocene and Rotliegendes intervals, but with no hydrocarbons present.

The second Mandal High area dual target well, Vinstra-Otta on the adjacent production license 539, will be drilled this year. No date was disclosed.

Mol Norge is operator of well 2/6-6S with a 40% interest. Partners are Lundin Norway 40% and Petoro 20%.
