Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) plans to open a technology center in Muscat in partnership with GlassPoint Solar.

The joint initiative is called SolaRISE for Solar Research, Innovation, and Sustainability in Energy. It was formed to develop and test solar technologies in oil fields.

Researchers will focus on cutting costs and automating operations. The center also will pilot and evaluate solar energy uses for other industrial processes in Oman and worldwide.

GlassPoint’s partnership with PDO began more than 7 years ago. After a successful pilot, the companies are building Miraah solar plant (OGJ, Jan. 1, 2018, p. 46). The technology center is being developed a few kilometers away from Miraah in southern Oman.
