Equinor started production from an improved oil recovery project in Visund Nord field in the Norwegian North Sea, adding an anticipated 13.3 million bbl at a development cost of 1.3 billion kroner.

The additional production is 6% more than originally estimated (OGJ Online, June 14, 2017).

Workers completed the IOR project on production license 120 in 21 months. It came on stream 2 months ahead of schedule without any serious health or safety incidents and well below budget.

Visund was proved in 1986, and the plan for development and operation was approved in 1996. Statoil (now Equinor) developed the field with a semisubmersible platform, Visund A, that provides living quarters, drilling, and processing services.

Visund Nord is an oil and gas field 10 km from the Visund A. Visund Nord is a subsea development with two new wells in a subsea template tied back to the Visund platform.

The Visund Nord subsea installation with two wells came on stream in November 2013.
