Tallgrass Energy LP is holding an open season soliciting binding shipper commitments for crude oil transportation service on its proposed 30-in. OD, 700-mile Seahorse pipeline. The pipeline would carry as much as 800,000 b/d from the Cushing, Okla., oil hub to St. James, La., operating as a multigrade common batch system.

Tallgrass expects Seahorse to start commercial operations om third-quarter 2021.

In addition, to accommodate shipper interest and continued growth in the Powder River, Denver-Julesburg, and Bakken producing regions, Tallgrass plans by yearend to complete pump optimization projects to expand capacity on its Pony Express pipeline to 400,000 b/d. If shipper interest exceeds that added capacity, Tallgrass may expand Pony Express further through additional horsepower or looping to increase movements from Guernsey, Wyo., and northeast Colorado.

The company says the combination of Seahorse and its Pony Express pipeline will ensure both domestic and international customers with access to crude from five different production basins. Tallgrass also has proposed an export-capable liquids terminal near the mouth of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, La. (OGJ Online, Aug. 1, 2018).

The Seahorse open season runs through Oct. 1.
