Baker Hughes: International rig count climbs 6 units in April

The international rig count increased 6 units month-over-month to 978 in April from 972 rigs in March, and up 22 from 956 a year ago, according to Baker Hughes data. The international offshore rig count for April was 194, up 6 from 185 in the previous month, and down 7 from 201 in April 2017.

The international offshore rig count for April was 194, up 6 from 185 in the previous month, and down 7 from 201 in April 2017.

The worldwide rig count for April was 2,087, down 92 from 2,279 in March and up 170 from 1,917 in April 2017.

Latin America lost 4 units from the previous month but is up 7 units year-over-year.

The average US rig count for April was 1,011, up 22 from 989 in March and up 158 from 853 in April 2017. The average Canadian rig count for April was 98, down 120 from 218 in March, and down 10 from 108 in April 2017.

The Asia-Pacific region was up 5 units during the month to 209, but down 4 rigs compared with its April 2017 average.

Africa was up 5 units during the month to 94, but down 5 units year-over-year.

Europe was down 1 unit to reach 88 in April, and down 3 units year-over-year.

The Middle East was up a single unit month-over-month at 398, up 9 units from its April 2017 average.
