JG Summit Petrochemicals Corp. (JGSPC), a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings Inc.’s wholly owned JG Summit Petrochemicals Group (JGSPG), has let a contract to a 65-35 joint venture of Maire Tecnimont SPA and JGC Philippines Inc. to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit and upgrade of an existing polypropylene (PP) unit at JGSPC’s portion of JGSPG’s petrochemical complex in Barangay Simlong, Batangas City, Philippines, 120 km south of Metro Manila overlooking Batangas Bay.
As part of the $180-million contract, Maire Tecnimont subsidiary Tecnimont SPA, through its affiliate Tecnimont Philippines Inc., and JGC Philippines will deliver EPC services up to the point of commissioning for a 250,000-tonne/year HDPE plant based on Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP’s proprietary MarTech process technology as well as the expansion of the complex’s existing PP plant to 300,000 tpy, Maire Tecnimont said.
JGSPC’s existing PP unit, which has a current capacity of 190,000 tpy, will remain based on W.R. Grace & Co.’s proprietary Unipol PP process technology, according to the service provider and information from JGSPG’s web site.
