JG Summit Petrochemicals, a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings’ wholly owned JG Summit Petrochemicals Group, has let a contract to a joint venture of Maire Tecnimont and JGC Philippines to provide EPC services for a HDPE unit and upgrade of an existing PP unit at JGSPC’s portion of JGSPG’s petrochemical complex in Barangay Simlong, Batangas City, Philippines, 120 km south of Metro Manila overlooking Batangas Bay.

JG Summit Petrochemicals Corp. (JGSPC), a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings Inc.’s wholly owned JG Summit Petrochemicals Group (JGSPG), has let a contract to a 65-35 joint venture of Maire Tecnimont SPA and JGC Philippines Inc. to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit and upgrade of an existing polypropylene (PP) unit at JGSPC’s portion of JGSPG’s petrochemical complex in Barangay Simlong, Batangas City, Philippines, 120 km south of Metro Manila overlooking Batangas Bay.

As part of the $180-million contract, Maire Tecnimont subsidiary Tecnimont SPA, through its affiliate Tecnimont Philippines Inc., and JGC Philippines will deliver EPC services up to the point of commissioning for a 250,000-tonne/year HDPE plant based on Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP’s proprietary MarTech process technology as well as the expansion of the complex’s existing PP plant to 300,000 tpy, Maire Tecnimont said.

JGSPC’s existing PP unit, which has a current capacity of 190,000 tpy, will remain based on W.R. Grace & Co.’s proprietary Unipol PP process technology, according to the service provider and information from JGSPG’s web site.

While Maire Tecnimont confirmed the project has an overall execution period of 26 months, the service company did not reveal a definitive timeframe for when it will begin its scope of work under the EPC contract.

JGSPG previously let a contract to Fluor Corp. to provide engineering, procurement, and construction management services for the utilities, off sites, and infrastructure for an expansion of subsidiary JG Summit Olefins Corp.’s (JGSOC) naphtha cracker plant, also located at the Batangas petrochemical complex (OGJ Online, Oct. 18, 2017).

JGSOC’s olefins expansion project—which will increase JGSOC’s ethylene production by 160,000 tpy to 480,000 tpy and propylene production by 50,000 tpy to 240,000 tpy—is scheduled to be completed by yearend 2020, according to Fluor.
