Saudi Aramco Total Refinery & Petrochemicals Co.—a joint venture of Saudi Aramco (62.5%) and TotalEnergies SE (37.5%)—has temporarily shuttered units at its 460,000 b/d full-conversion refinery complex at Jubail, on Saudi Arabia’s eastern coast, following disruptions resulting from the ongoing war in the Middle East.

In an Apr. 10 update to the market, TotalEnergies said operations the SATORP complex have been halted due to “incidents that occurred during the night of April 7-8,” which caused damage to one of the refinery’s two processing trains.

While no casualties were reported following the incident, SATORP has shuttered the two units as a safety precaution, according to the minority stakeholder.

With an assessment of impacts to the refinery’s operations now underway, TotalEnergies said it continues “to monitor the evolution of the situation on the ground” and will provide an operational update to the market “in case of [any] material change.”

Elsewhere in the region, TotalEnergies said that, as of Apr. 10, it has “shut down or is in the process of shutting down” its upstream production activities in Qatar, Iraq, and the UAE offshore—representing about 15% of the company’s total output—due to the Middle East war.
