Binh Son Refining & Petrochemical Co. Ltd. has shuttered its 140,000-b/d Dung Quat refinery in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, for 2 months of planned maintenance.
The company began to power down operations at the refinery on May 12, and maintenance work was scheduled to begin on May 19, BSRP said in a statement posted recently to its web site.
This is the second planned maintenance turnaround at Dung Quat since the refinery was commissioned in 2009, with a first turnaround completed in 2011, according to BSRP.
The company said it expects the scheduled maintenance to be completed in 57 days.
While the Vietnamese government in 2010 approved plans to raise capacity at Dung Quat—which is Vietnam’s only refinery—to 200,000 b/d (OGJ Online, Aug. 13, 2010), BSRP disclosed neither details regarding the nature of work to be carried out during the current turnaround period nor if it was related to expanding the plant’s capacity.
