PETROPERU TO CALL TENDER FOR MAJOR REFINERY PROJECT

Peru's state owned Petroleos del Peru SA will call an international tender and arrange financing for installation of three conversion units at its 93,900 b/d La Pampilla refinery at Ventanilla, near Lima. Petroperu estimates cost of the installation at about $280 million. The basic project design was completed by UOP Inc., Des Plaines, Ill., at yearend 1984. The project had been postponed because Peru could not obtain credit.

Petroperu estimates cost of the installation at about $280 million.

The basic project design was completed by UOP Inc., Des Plaines, Ill., at yearend 1984. The project had been postponed because Peru could not obtain credit.

However, the government expects to reintegrate into the international monetary system, following renewal of debt payments to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

PROJECT DETAILS

The planned new units are a 33,000 b/d vacuum distillation unit, 15,000 b/d fluid catalytic cracking unit, and 27,000 b/d visbreaking unit.

Petroperu hopes to increase domestic production of liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, and diesel fuel, some of which it imports, while maintaining a surplus of residual fuels.

Petroperu has not disclosed a schedule for the tenders but says the new unit should be in operation by 1994.

La Pampilla, built in 1967, operates two primary distillation units with capacities of 35,000 b/d and 65,000 b/d, an 11,000 b/d vacuum distillation unit, ar 6,700 b/d cat cracker.
