TechnipFMC has confirmed details of its scope of work on an earlier jointly awarded contract by Siam Cement PCL subsidiary Long Son Petrochemical Co. (LSP) for construction of Vietnam’s first petrochemical complex at LSP’s $5.4-billion complex on Long Son Island in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria Province, about 100 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.

TechnipFMC PLC has confirmed details of its scope of work on an earlier jointly awarded contract by Siam Cement Public Co. Ltd. (SCG) subsidiary Long Son Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (LSP) for construction of Vietnam’s first petrochemical complex at LSP’s $5.4-billion complex on Long Son Island in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria Province, about 100 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City (OGJ Online, Mar. 10, 2017; Oct. 9, 2009).

Alongside fellow consortium partner SK E&C Co. Ltd., TechnipFMC will deliver licensing, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup services for the proposed 950,000-tonne/year ethylene plant that, designed as a flexible feed cracker, will use both naphtha and LPG feeds to produce 1.6 million tpy of olefins depending on the feedstock mix, TechnipFMC said.

As leader of the consortium, TechnipFMC will execute all engineering as well as procurement of critical equipment for the project from its operating centers in Houston, Rome, and Kuala Lumpur, the service provider said.

In addition to proprietary licensed C3 hydrogenation, C4-C5 hydrogenation, pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation, and butadiene recovery units, the new plant will feature TechnipFMC’s proprietary ethylene technology, including its Ultra Selective Conversion furnaces as well as Heat-Integrated Rectifier System.

While TechnipFMC valued its portion of the jointly awarded contract in a wide range of $500 million to $1 billion, SK E&C previously revealed the $2-billion turnkey contract would be divided equally between the partners and, once initiated, last 53 months (OGJ Online Feb. 6, 2018).

Definitive details regarding a timeframe for completion of the proposed plant—which also will produce 400,000 tpy of propylene to help meet Vietnam’s rising demand for petrochemical products and help eliminate the country’s current reliance on imports of raw materials—have yet to be disclosed, however.
