Guide to world crudes: Statoil publishes assay for Grane Blend

The field, discovered by Norsk Hydro in 1991 and brought on stream in September 2003, is the first field on the Norwegian continental shelf to produce heavy crude oil (OGJ Online, Sept. 23, 2003).
A heavy, high total acid number (TAN) crude, Grane Blend commingles production from Grane and Svalin fields (74% vol), as well as Edvard Grieg field (26% vol), which started to produce Nov. 28 from PL338 on Utsira High in the North Sea, about 180 km west of Stavanger (OGJ Online, Nov. 30, 2015).

Light, low-sulfur Oseberg Blend (6-7% vol) ceased commingling with Grane Blend from November, in connection with Edvard Grieg's startup, according to Statoil.
The new assay for Grane Blend coincides with the introduction of Edvard Grieg production to the mixture. Statoil said it expects Grane Blend gradually to move towards quality specifications reflected in the assay.
When the Grane field came on stream, Statoil estimated its recoverable reserves at 700 million bbl of oil (OGJ, July 2, 2012, p. 94).
