Sumatra to get gas-fired peaking power plant

A contractor to PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, Indonesia’s state utility, has chosen Wartsila Corp. to supply Indonesia’s first gas-fired combustion engine based peaking power plant to be built at Sei Gelam Jambi in Sumatra.

The plant, to be in operation by the end of 2012, is to supply power to the regional electricity grid during the evening peak load period. It is to be powered by eleven 20-cylinder Wartsila 34SG generator sets in V configuration operating on compressed natural gas and providing 100 Mw of output.

Wartsila received the contract from PT PP (Persero) Tbk, the engineering, procurement, and construction main contractor to PT.PLN.
