The US Bureau of Land Management’s Rock Springs, Wyo., field office opened a 30-day comment period on Nov. 15 on its environmental assessment of Chevron USA Inc.’s proposal to expand Table Rock field with up to 88 new oil, gas, and water injection wells.

Comments will be accepted through Dec. 14, it indicated in a notice.

The field covers nearly 13,650 acres of primarily private and federal land, with a small amount of state acreage, in Sweetwater County 40 miles east of Rock Springs. The notice said the field was developed in 1945 and currently has 100 producing wells and a gas processing plant Chevron operates.

The notice said that the new proposal includes a combination of 33 shallow vertical and directional oil wells, 20 deep gas wells, and up to 35 water injection wells at depths ranging from 7,000 to 15,000 ft depending on geologic formation. Eighteen existing wells would be converted to water injection.

Chevron plans to install the wells in the next 14 years, with projected lives of 40-55 years, and slightly more than 300 acres of maximum surface disturbance, BLM said.
