Exploration in Brazil's Amazonas province continues to yield significant results.
State owned Petroleos Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) disclosed details of two successful exploratory wells in the Rio Urucu area of the Amazonas Solimoes basin.
Petrobras is pressing a campaign to turn the remote jungle region into a major oil and gas producing province (OGJ, Feb. 12, p. 17).
FIELD DISCOVERY
Petrobras tapped a new field with a wildcat near Leste do Urucu field east of the Urucu River.
Site is on a 7 sq km structure 8 km northeast of 3LUC-8-AM, which recently flowed oil and gas just east of Leste do Urucu field (see map, OGJ, Feb. 12, p. 19).
Petrobras 1-IMT-1-AM (1 Egarape Marta), drilled to 2,612 m, flowed 1,100 b/d of 42 gravity oil through a 3/8 in. choke from undisclosed pay at 2,446-49 m.
Two other zones behind pipe are potential gas/condensate pays and will be tested soon.
Petrobras estimates the structure could hold 25 million bbl of original oil in place.
The discovery has improved prospects for commerciality of the Leste do Urucu area, the company said.
The rig that drilled the discovery well is being moved to drill the 1-RIT-1-AM (1 Itainhaua) wildcat about 20 km to the east.
RIO URUCU EXTENDED
Petrobras also extended Rio Urucu field's gas/condensate pool to the northeast.
The company completed testing the 3-RUC-1 9D-AM (1 Rio Urucu) delineation on the northeast flank of Rio Urucu field. The well flowed 300 Mcfd of gas and 480 b/d of condensate through a 1 in. choke from Paleozoic Itaituba at 2,835-41 m.
Drilled directionally from the RUC-4 location, the well bottomed at 3,072 m after 2 months of drilling.
The rig that drilled the well is moving to another Rio Urucu delineation location 5 km away.
Petrobras now estimates proved, probable, and possible reserves of oil, gas, and condensate in the Rio Urucu and Juria areas of the Solimoes basin at 362 million bbl of oil equivalent.
The basin's production climbed about 500 b/d to 4,500 b/d last month.
Meantime, installation began last week of compressors at a gathering/separation plant under construction to reinject gas.
Studies are under way to determine feasibility of selling the gas for power generation at the Amazonas capital of Manaus and nearby Porto Velho.
