Eastern Chinese operator lets contract for grassroots HDPE unit
Shandong Yuhuang Shengshi Chemical Inc. Ltd. (SYSC), a subsidiary of Shandong Yuhuang Chemical Co. Ltd. (SYCC), has let a contract to LyondellBasell Industries NV to deliver polyethylene process technology for a grassroots unit to be built at SYSC’s petrochemical complex in Heze City, Shandong Province, China.
LyondellBasell will provide licensing for its proprietary Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (Hostalen ACP) technology for production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) at a 200,000-tonne/year HDPE unit scheduled for startup in 2018, LyondellBasell said.
The technology provider did not disclose a value of the contract.
Through its subsidiaries, privately held SYCC owns five major refining, chemical, and derivatives production sites across China.
Operations abroad
Yuhuang Chemical Inc. (YCI), SYCC’s US-based subsidiary, currently is building the first phase of a planned 3 million-tpy methanol manufacturing complex along the Mississippi River in St. James Parish, La. (OGJ Online, Feb. 6, 2017).
Scheduled for startup in early 2018, Phase 1 of the St. James complex will include a 1.7 million-tpy methanol plant, which will be followed by construction of a second plant as part the project’s second-phase development.
Scheduled to be fully commissioned within 10 years, the complex also will house a methanol derivatives plant for production of intermediate chemicals, YCI said.
While YCI plans to export most of the complex’s methanol production by oceangoing vessels to SYCC’s Chinese chemical production plants as feedstock, the operator previously said it would ship about 20-30% of production from the complex via barge and rail to North American markets (OGJ Online, Feb. 11, 2015).
