CTCI lets Bangchak's refinery steam reformer contract

HOUSTON, Mar. 2 -- Taiwan's CTCI Corp. has let an engineering and materials supply contract to Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd. for a steam reformer for hydrogen production and for three fired heaters for vacuum distillation and hydrocracker units to be installed at Bangchak Petroleum Public Co. Ltd.'s refinery in Bangkok. The contract value was not disclosed.

CTCI is the engineering, procurement, and construction prime contractor for the Product Quality Improvement project at Bangchak's 61,750 b/cd refinery. This project involves revamping and expanding existing plant units and adding six new units to upgrade fuel oil to products such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel. Also included is construction of a hydrogen production plant having a capacity of 40 MMscfd of high-purity hydrogen. It is slated for operation by mid-2008.

The hydrogen plant will use Foster Wheeler's steam-reforming technology and Terrace-Wall reformer, which features a unique firing arrangement within a sloped-wall radiant section and can be designed for natural draft operation.
