HOUSTON, Oct. 16 -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), Riyadh, reported that its United Petrochemical Co. subsidiary plans to construct a new 625,000 tonne/year ethylene glycol plant at its Jubail Industrial City plant site in Saudi Arabia. The new plant is expected to go on stream by yearend 2005.

A second EG plant with a capacity of 575,000 tonnes/year is already under construction at the site, and SABIC plans to announce construction contracts for the newer plant later this year.

SABIC announced earlier this year the acquisition of $1.154 billion in financing for the new plant (OGJ Online, Jan. 9, 2003).
