Sabic unit lets contract for PP expansion

HOUSTON, Aug. 17 -- Saudi European Petrochemical Co. (SEPC), a unit of Saudi Basic Industries Corp., awarded a contract to Aker Kvaerner for Sabic's Ibn Zahr Polypropylene (PP) III expansion project at Al-Jabail, Saudi Arabia.

The total contract value to Aker Kvaerner was not disclosed.

Aker Kvaerner's will provide program management services and basic engineering services for the PP expansion and the associated utilities and offsite facilities. A 500,000 tonne/year PP line will be built, nearly doubling current capacity.

The additional capacity is expected to come on stream in the second quarter of 2008, SEPC said.
