Ergon Inc. has extinguished a fire that occurred on Apr. 7 at subsidiary Ergon-West Virginia Inc.’s (EWV) 21,850-b/d refinery in Newell, WV.
Damage from the fire, which broke out at an unoccupied maintenance shop at the refinery, was relegated to the structure and did not impact bulk chemicals or hydrocarbons at the site, Ergon North & South America said on Apr. 8.
“The damage was contained, and there will be no impact to our operations or to the pending maintenance schedule," said Emmitte Haddox, Ergon’s chief executive officer.
“Thankfully, there were no injuries [as a result of the incident],” Haddox added.
Ergon disclosed no further details regarding the fire or the scope of upcoming planned maintenance at the refinery.
EWV’s Newell refinery houses high-pressure hydrotreating, solvent dewaxing, vacuum distillation, and residuum solvent deasphalting processing capacities to convert crude oil into highly refined paraffinic process and base oils, bright stocks, ultralow sulfur gasoline and diesel fuels, waxes, and petroleum resins.
