Total Oil Trading SA, the oil and gas trading arm of Total SA, Paris, published an assay dated Mar. 12, 2019, for Gindungo crude oil, produced from the Kaombo oil development offshore Angola. Operated by Total E&P Angola, the project lies on Block 32 in 1,400-2,000 m of water about 260 km offshore Luanda.
Kaombo Norte, the development’s first floating production, storage, and offloading unit, began producing 115,000 b/d in July 2018, with the second FPSO, Kaombo Sul starting production of another 115,000 b/d in April 2019 (OGJ Online, Apr. 2, 2019; July 27, 2018).
A total of 59 wells will be connected to the two FPSOs, which were converted from very large crude carriers to develop the resources of Gindungo, Gengibre, Caril, Canela, Mostarda, and Louro fields over an 800-sq-km area in the central and southern part of the block.
Gindungo, Gengibre, and Caril are connected to the Kaombo Norte FPSO, while Mostarda, Canela, and Louro are connected to Kaombo Sul.
The Kaombo projects holds an estimated 650 million bbl of reserves and, once fully developed, will account for 15% of Angola’s oil production
Total operates Block 32 with a 30% participating interest, along with Sonangol P&P 30%, Sonangol Sinopec International 32 Ltd. 20%, Esso Exploration & Production Angola (Overseas) Ltd. 15%, and Galp Energia Overseas Block 32 BV 5%.
