Nova Corp., Calgary, plans to spend about $2.6 billion during the next 5 years on expansion of its Alberta natural gas pipeline system to meet increased demand for service.

Nova expects its total Alberta pipeline volumes to finish 1990 near 1989's record of 2.83 tcf. In the first 6 months, the system moved 1.4 tcf, averaging 7.9 bcf/day, or about the same as first half 1989.

Total exports were 4% higher at 1.12 tcf than the 1.08 tcf exported in first half 1989.

Total intraprovince deliveries, however, decreased 12% to 295 bcf, Nova blamed the drop on unseasonably warm weather and reduced industrial demand.

At the Alberta-British Columbia border, total deliveries mainly to California via Pan-Alberta Gas Ltd. amounted to 271 bcf, up 7% from first half 1989.

Meanwhile, gas deliveries at the Alberta-Saskatchewan border destined for Central Canada and U.S. markets through the TransCanada pipeline system increased 4% to 680 bcf.

Gas deliveries to the U.S. Midwest via the Foothills system were up 2% at 155 bcf.
