Venture Global Inc., Arlington, Va., has formally filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) its application for the permitting and approval of its Plaquemines LNG brownfield expansion project in Plaquemines Parish, La.

Additionally, the company said in a release Nov. 18, an application has been filed with the US Department of Energy (DOE) for the export authorizations associated with the expansion.

The company noted plans for the expansion in March of this year.

Venture Global has since increased the expected output from the project by about 40% from the previously noted plans. The company cited “continued optimization” of its liquefaction trains and “strong market demand” for the expansion.

The bolt-on expansion will be built through a three-phase process consisting of 32 modular liquefaction trains, which are expected to add in total over 30 million tonnes/year in peak production capacity, bringing the total peak production capacity across the entire Plaquemines complex to over 58 million tpy.

Commercial operations timelines for Phase I and Phase II remain unchanged.

“This strategic step provides Venture Global with the optionality to develop a scalable project that can efficiently meet market needs as they evolve. Our decision to significantly increase the project’s permitted capacity reflects the strong market demand we continue to see and this expansion will play a vital role in meeting that demand,” said Mike Sabel, chief executive officer, Venture Global.
