NextDecade Rio Grande LNG contractor awards equipment contract for Train 5

Train 5 has expected LNG production capacity of about 6 million tpy, bringing the total expected LNG production capacity under construction at Rio Grande LNG to about 30 million tpy.

NextDecade Corp. contractor Bechtel Energy Inc. has let a contract to Baker Hughes to supply primary liquefaction equipment for Train 5 of the Rio Grande LNG plant in the Port of Brownsville, Tex.

NextDecade reached a positive financial investment decision (FID) and financial close on Train 5 in October. Train 5 has expected LNG production capacity of about 6 million tonnes/year (tpy), bringing the total expected LNG production capacity under construction at Rio Grande LNG to about 30 million tpy.

The award follows a recent order for Train 4 and is part of an established framework agreement covering a variety of Baker Hughes equipment and associated contractual services for Trains 4 through 8, the service provider said in a release Nov. 6.

The Train 5 order includes two Frame 7 gas turbines and six centrifugal compressors.

In its recent third-quarter earnings release Oct. 30, NextDecade said project costs for Train 5 and related infrastructure are expected to total about $6.7 billion, and that guaranteed substantial completion of Train 5 is first-half 2031.
