Eni takes FID for Coral North FLNG project offshore Mozambique
Eni and partners have reached a final investment decision (FID) to develop the Coral North FLNG project in deep water offshore Cabo Delgado, north of Mozambique.
Through the project, gas produced from the northern part of Area’s 4 Coral gas reservoir, in the Rovuma basin, will be processed through a newly built, 3.6-million tonnes/year (tpy) floating LNG vessel. The companies expect to deliver the Coral North project in 2028.
Coral North is Eni’s second development in Mozambique and the second large-scale FLNG delivered in ultra-deep waters. The first, Coral South (Sul), has been in production since 2022.
Together, Coral North FLNG and Coral South are expected to increase Mozambique’s overall LNG production to more than 7 million tpy, making the country the third-largest LNG producer in Africa, Eni said.
The Coral North project is being developed by a joint venture formed by Eni (50%), CNPC (20%), Kogas (10%), ENH (10%), and ADNOC subsidiary XRG (10%).
