Woodside, Turkish-Botaş sign conditional LNG supply agreement

The companies aim to strike a binding deal in which Woodside would supply Turkish-state Botaş with LNG for up to 9 years, primarily from the Louisiana LNG project.

Woodside has signed a heads-of-agreement with Türkiye’s Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma AŞ (Botaş) under which Woodside will supply Botaş with about 5.8 bcm natural gas equivalent of LNG for up to 9 years starting from 2030, primarily from the Louisiana LNG project.

Woodside in April made a final investment decision (FID) to develop the foundational three-train, 16.5 million tonne/year (tpy) Louisiana LNG development under construction in Calcasieu Parish, La., targeting first LNG in 2029. Louisiana LNG has a total permitted capacity of 27.6 million tpy.

In a mid-September update, Woodside said the construction workforce on Louisiana LNG has increased to almost 900 personnel, with work on the first of three LNG trains more than 22% complete.

The supply arrangement between Woodside and Botaş is subject to the parties entering into a binding sales and purchase agreement.

Earlier this month at the Gastech conference in Milan, Italy, Botaş signed medium- and short-term LNG agreements with bp, Shell, Eni, Cheniere, Equinor, Hartree, JERA, and SEFE. Together, the agreements amount to delivery of about 15 bcm of natural gas equivalent of LNG to Türkiye between 2025 and 2028.
