Venture Global LNG Inc. won US Department of Energy (DOE) approval Aug. 4 to export an additional 20 bcf/year of natural gas from its nameplate 10-million tonne/year (tpy) Calcasieu Pass LNG plant in Cameron Parish, La. DOE’s final authorization to export LNG to non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) countries should support five additional cargoes/year from the plant.
Venture Global said the “uprate approval increases Calcasieu Pass’ permitted peak liquefaction capacity from 12-million tpy to 12.4 million tpy.”
Venture Global’s first project, Calcasieu Pass reached first LNG production in 2022 and began commercial operations in April 2025 (OGJ Online, Apr. 15, 2025). The 20-million tpy Plaquemines LNG plant, Venture Global’s second project, began LNG production in December 2024.
CP2, Venture Global’s third project, received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval in June 2024, paving the way for its DOE export authorization, granted earlier this year (OGJ Online, Mar. 19, 2025). The company has signed long-term sales and purchase agreements for all of CP2's Phase 1 capacity (OGJ Online, July 16, 2025), recently reached a final investment decision, and has begun site work.
