Venture Global Inc. has initiated full mobilization and started site work at its third LNG export plant, CP2 LNG, with all federal approvals now in hand.
With its modularized strategy, CP2 is in advanced stages of engineering, procurement, and contracting, Venture Global said. Separate from the site work now beginning, the CP2 project has ‘significant’ off-site work under way on modules and equipment, the company said in a release June 3.
On May 23, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted Venture Global permission to construct and operate its 28-million tonnes/year CP2 LNG plant in Cameron Parish, La., as well as the related CP Express pipeline (OGJ Online, May 27, 2025). The company in March received authorization from the US Department of Energy for LNG exports from CP2 to non-FTA countries (OGJ Online, Mar. 25, 2025).
According to Venture Global, the project—expected to provide US LNG to customers in Europe, Japan, and other countries—could support about 3,000 new jobs in Louisiana (400 of which will be direct, permanent employees of CP2). At peak construction, CP2 is expected to employ about 7,500 direct construction jobs and support tens of thousands of indirect subcontractor, part-time and full-time jobs in over 30 states, the company said.
