Venture Global LNG has loaded the first cargo from its 20-million tpy Plaquemines LNG plant in Port Sulphur, La.

Venture Global LNG Inc. has loaded the first cargo from its 20-million tonne/year Plaquemines LNG plant in Port Sulphur, La. The commissioning cargo was lifted by Venture Bayou and will be shipped to EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberg AG in Brunsbuettel, Germany.

The 174,000-cu m Bayou is one of nine LNG carriers the company in March 2024 purchased while under construction at three South Korean shipyards, for delivery this year through 2026. Six of the vessels will have 174,000 cu m of LNG capacity, with the other three capable of hauling 200,000 cu m (OGJ Online, Mar. 18, 2024). Venture Bayou was built at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.

Plaquemines LNG reached final investment decision on Phase 1 in May 2022 and Phase 2 in March 2023. Venture Global says it will continue to produce and load LNG as the plant is completed.

The company started production at Plaquemines earlier this month (OGJ Online, Dec. 16, 2024).
