Woodside Energy Ltd., Perth, has chosen Bechtel as the preferred execution contractor for the proposed expansion of its Pluto LNG facility on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha in Western Australia.

Woodside said it would work closely with Bechtel in preparation for award of the contract for the front-end engineering and design phase of the Pluto project.

The proposal is for a brownfield expansion of the Pluto LNG facility, including construction of a second LNG train with a targeted capacity of 4-5 million tonnes/year and the development of the 7.3 tcf of offshore Scarborough field’s gas resource.

Woodside is aiming to begin FEED during third-quarter 2019 with a final investment decision scheduled for 2020. On that timetable, Train 2 is targeted to be brought on stream in 2024.
