Woodside Energy Ltd. contractor Bechtel Overseas Corp. has signed Sembcorp Marine Ltd.’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms Pte. Ltd., for module assembly of Pluto LNG’s 5-million tonne/year second liquefaction train. Train 2 will double the plant’s capacity, allowing processing of natural gas from offshore Scarborough field.

Pluto LNG, which began operations in 2012, is a single-train onshore plant on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha in northwest Western Australia, processing natural gas shipped via a 112-mile pipeline from Pluto and Xena offshore fields. Woodside made final investment decision for both Scarborough and Pluto LNG Train 2 earlier this month (OGJ Online, Dec. 6, 2021).

An area for the second train was prepared in 2007-08 during initial site work.

Bechtel and Sembcorp will form an integrated management team to manage module assembly, scheduled to be completed in 2024. Bechtel is Pluto Train 2’s engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.

Baker Hughes Co. will supply Train 2’s gas turbines and centrifugal compressors.
