Train 1 of PAO Novatek’s 19.8-million tonne/year (tpy) Arctic LNG 2 liquefaction plant on Russia’s Gydan peninsula remains on track for completion by end-2022. Novatek updated the project’s status following a meeting between partner companies’ chief executive officers.
Novatek said Arctic LNG 2 was 19% complete, with concrete casting of the first gravity-based structure platform estimated to occur by 37%. Module fabrication yards are working at full capacity, according to Novatek, with contractors fully mobilized. Train 2 is expected to follow in 2024 and Train 3 in 2026, each adding 6.6 million tpy.
The company has drilled nine production wells at Utrenneye field using three drilling rigs. Novatek also continues to negotiate LNG sales agreements for the plant’s output. Arctic LNG 2’s partners took final investment decision on the project last year (OGJ Online, Sept. 5, 2019).
Total SA has a direct 10% interest in Arctic LNG 2 alongside Novatek 60%, China National Offshore Oil Corp. 10%, China National Petroleum Corp. 10%, and a Mitsui-Jogmec consortium Japan Arctic LNG 10%. Total also owns 11.6% indirect participation in the project through its 19.4% stake in Novatek, for a 21.6% aggregated economic interest in the project.
