Mozambique Rovuma Venture SPA (MRV) has let an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to a consortium of Fluor Corp., JGC Corp. of Japan, and TechnipFMC of France for its Mozambique Rovuma LNG Phase 1 project in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
The 15 million-tonne/year project will develop Area 4 of ultradeep Rovuma basin, an offshore natural gas field with resources up to 15 tcf. Offtake agreements with partner affiliates were signed in December 2018. The partners expect LNG production from the two trains comprising Phase 1 to start in 2024.
The project also will supply as much as 17,000 tpy of LPG to Mozambique from Area 4 resources, replacing about 50% of the country’s LPG imports.
MRV is an incorporated joint venture owned by Eni SPA, ExxonMobil Corp., and China National Petroleum Corp., which holds 70% interest in the Area 4 exploration and production concession contract. Galp, Korea Gas Co. and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos EP each hold 10%.
ExxonMobil will lead construction and operation of liquefaction and related facilities and Eni will lead construction and operation of the project’s upstream.
