Statoil improves oil spill response in Russia

Statoil ASA will invest $1.7 million in new equipment to improve its oil spill emergency response systems off northwestern Russia in partnership with authorities in the Murmansk area.

LONDON, Jan. 25 -- Statoil ASA will invest $1.7 million in new equipment to improve its oil spill emergency response systems off northwestern Russia in partnership with authorities in the Murmansk area.

Crude tankers are loaded in Murmansk for delivery to Europe and the US.

Statoil will train Russian staff and has invested $1.2 million in laboratory equipment to be used by the Russians to analyze oil samples and prepare emergency responses to oil spills.
