HOUSTON, Jan. 22-- Saudi Aramco plans to replace and expand an existing 71-mile oil pipeline between Bahrain, in the Persian Gulf, and Saudi Arabia. The estimated $350 million project targets start-up in 2011, according to Bahrain Petroleum Co. Chief Executive Officer Abdul Karim Al Sayed.

His announcement comprised part of comments Jan. 19 that opened the Pipeline Rehabilitation and Maintenance conference and exhibition in Bahrain's capital, Manama.

The project will increase throughput from Saudi Arabia to the island kingdom to 350,000 b/d from the current 235,000 b/d. A planned expansion of the 262,000 b/d Sitra refinery, required to accommodate the higher volumes, may not be quite ready by the planned start-up date, said Al Sayed.
