Murex, Cetane to double Permian rail terminal capacity

Murex LLC and Cetane Energy LLC agreed to double the capacity at their Cetane crude oil transloading terminal in Carlsbad, NM, to 40,000 b/d by July 2015. Murex says it and Cetane have already worked closely with the BNSF Railway and Southwest Railroad to convert Cetane from what was a 25 car/day manifest terminal into a site capable of shipping as many as two unit trains/week. The additional investment will allow it to ship four to five unit trains/week of Permian basin crude.

The terminal includes 40,000 bbl of crude oil storage, 12 tank-truck offloading stations, and more than 18,000 ft of rail track to accommodate unit train loading. It shipped its first unit train on Dec. 18, 2013. The expansion project will include additional storage and enhancements to the track in addition to the increased offloading capacity.
