GasLog orders newbuild LNG carrier

GasLog Ltd., Monaco, has ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (SHI) a newbuild 180,000-cu m LNG carrier. The construction contract, valued at about $179 million, includes an option through yearend for an additional carrier.

The South Korean shipbuilder said it will apply the latest Mark V cargo containment system to reduce the boil-off rate within the vessel’s membranes. SHI says the vessel will be the first of its kind.
