In a precursor to first cargo, Train 2 of Freeport LNG Development LP’s project on Quintana Island in Freeport, Tex. began producing liquified natural gas (LNG), McDermott International Inc. reported.

Zachry Group, as the joint venture lead, partnered with McDermott International Inc. for the pre-FEED in 2011, followed by FEED works to support the early development stage of the project as a solution provider for Trains 1 and 2. Chiyoda International Corp. joined the joint venture partnership for work related to Train 3. The project scope includes three pre-treatment trains, a liquefaction facility with three trains, a second loading berth and a 165,000-cu m full containment LNG storage tank.

Trains 2 and 3 remain on track to meet previously announced schedules, the partners said, with Train 3 initial production for first-quarter 2020.

In May, Freeport LNG Development LP reported obtaining approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to site, construct, and operate Train 4. Expected to to start operations in 2023, Train 4 could add more than 5 million tonnes/year of LNG production to the existing project, increasing the total export capability of the four-train facility to more than 20 million tpy (OGJ Online, May 17, 2019).
