James Cleland

James Cleland is the General Manager of GE Heavy Oil Solutions. This Calgary-based group has a mandate of bringing domain expertise to GE to better serve Heavy Oil clients with integrated solutions that tackle some of the industry’s toughest challenges.
Prior to joining GE in March 2011, Cleland spent seven years working in economic development for the province of Alberta. In this capacity he worked with oil sands producers and suppliers on supply chain and cost overrun challenges, as well as international investment opportunities in the oil sands. Most recently, he was Executive Director of the Alberta Economic Development Authority, a provincial board of CEO’s who provide business advice to the Premier and Cabinet of Alberta.
Before joining the government, Cleland spent 18 years working in the metal fabrication industry. He was Vice President and General Manager of All New Manufacturing, a Calgary-based custom fabricator. Cleland has an executive MBA from the University of Calgary and lives in Calgary.
