This course provides an overview of data management in E&P and focuses on the subsurface domain. The need to deliver good data management is increasingly being seen as providing competitive advantage to companies across the E&P industry, since wise business decisions depend on sound data and information. In effect, data management is an enabler of efficient business processes, which in turn creates business value. Participants will leave this course with a thorough understanding of the data management issues and challenges affecting companies. Upon completion of this course, participants will have the knowledge and tools necessary to participate in developing a structured data management framework, which will deal with these issues in a practical and effective manner, and ensure that business efficiency is improved and value realised. This course will provide an understanding of the underlying data management principles and concepts, and using an interactive classroom format, participants will have the opportunity to learn from presentations, exercises and interactive discussions. Course instructors are experienced data management practitioners, who have delivered data management services and data improvement projects to many E&P companies; from small independents through to the super majors. As this course is foundational it will be of most benefit to those with little or a basic, prior understanding of the subject.
Those with little to no experience with basic technical data used in the E&P industry. Course attendees may hold a variety of roles within the industry (such as data managers, information managers, technical managers and assistants, technologists, geologists, geophysicists, etc.) but require an introduction to, and foundation in, management of specific data types, common pitfalls and best practices.
