Attorneys and the legal services they provide represent an essential element in the oil and gas industry, just as they do in the business community as a whole. In today’s litigious society, quality legal representation is critical in all contractual, financial, and business matters.

For this precise reason, Oil & Gas Financial Journal is publishing a directory of law firms with energy practices, particularly those that have an emphasis on the upstream segment oil and gas industry. We do not promote the services of one law firm over another, but we allow each firm to state the areas in which they specialize, with an emphasis on energy.

Our editors and researchers have just begun to collect information on these firms and the legal services they offer, but we wanted to share the information we have collected to date to our readers. As we gather more data, we will update this directory of legal services in future issues of OGFJ.

In addition, this section of the publication contains two articles that we think our subscribers will find worth reading. David Asmus, Jay Alexander, and Steve Hunsicker of Baker Botts LLP have authored a piece on safeguarding investors’ rights and planning to avoid disputes. Their emphasis is on effective strategies in dispute resolution. In addition, Patricia Casey of the Houston office of Haynes and Boone LLP provides an overview of international arbitration.
