In Memorium: Stephen Beasley (1951-2016)
Stephen Craig Beasley, who started his business career with FMC Corp. in the 1970s and retired from El Paso Corp. in 2007, died Sept. 13 at age 65 after battling cancer. He held numerous positions at FMC in sales, sales management, and marketing in the company's Industrial Chemical and Petroleum Equipment Groups. In 1987, he joined Tenneco Energy, which was later acquired by El Paso Corp. He served in a number of executive roles with Tenneco, including head of marketing and transportation services for Tenneco Gas Pipeline Co.; director of marketing, sales, and communications for Tenneco Gas Marketing; vice president of Tenneco International Development; and vice president of marketing for Tennessee Gas Pipeline. He later assumed the role of president of El Paso Corp.'s Eastern Pipeline Group and served as a member of El Paso's nine-member corporate executive committee. In this role, he served as chairman and president of Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company and ANR Pipeline Company. After retiring from El Paso in 2007, Beasley founded Eaton Group Inc., an executive leadership, strategic investment, and community philanthropy firm, where he served as CEO. He also served on the board of directors for numerous companies, including WGL Holdings Inc., SandRidge Energy Inc., and Space Services Holdings Inc. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Beasley; his son, Brad Beasley; his daughter, Kate Brock; and a host of additional family and friends.
Anadarko Petroleum makes leadership changes
Darrell Hollek has been named executive vice president, operations with responsibility for Anadarko Petroleum Corp.'s US onshore exploration, production, and midstream activities, along with its Gulf of Mexico and international operations. He previously served as executive vice president, US onshore exploration and production. Ernie Leyendecker, formerly senior vice president, international exploration, has been named executive vice president, international and deepwater exploration. Bob Daniels, formerly executive vice president, international and deepwater exploration, will continue as an executive vice president and member of the company's executive committee until his retirement later this year. Jim Kleckner, formerly executive vice president, international and deepwater operations also is retiring. Hollek has been with the company since 1980. He will also remain a director of Western Gas Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of Anadarko, and Western Gas Equity Holdings LLC, the general partner of Western Gas Equity Partners LP. Leyendecker has more than 30 years of experience and joined the company in 2002. He has held positions of increasing responsibility including general manager for worldwide exploration engineering, planning and international negotiations, vice president of corporate planning and senior vice president, Gulf of Mexico Exploration. In addition, the company has named Robin Fielder as vice president, investor relations. Fielder will report to John Colglazier, senior vice president, investor relations and communications. Effective Nov. 1, 2016, Fielder will assume leadership of the company's investor relations organization, with Colglazier serving in an advisory capacity as senior vice president until his retirement early next year. Fielder has nearly 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, beginning her career with Anadarko in 2002. Fielder served as director, investor relations from 2014 to 2016. She holds a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University, and is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
Atkins joins Locke Lord as Partner in London
Oil and gas transactional lawyer Kevin Atkins has joined Locke Lord as a partner in the London office. Atkins has extensive experience working on complex cross-border acquisitions and divestitures, asset level farm-ins and farm-outs and joint venture structures for international oil and gas companies as well as representing clients across the energy sector seeking to raise capital. Prior to joining Locke Lord, Atkins was the partner responsible for the international oil and gas practice at Chadbourne & Parke LLP and was involved in developing the firm's Africa practice.
Mayer Brown expands capabilities in Mexico City
Ariel Ramos has joined Mayer Brown in Mexico City as a partner in the banking and finance practice and global energy group, where he will advise clients on energy, infrastructure and projects transactions. He was founding partner at Ramos Marcín Abogados SC and previously served as the leader of Haynes and Boone LLP's energy, projects and energy finance practice in Mexico and head of the energy, infrastructure and project finance practice at White & Case LLP in Mexico. He advises international oil companies, Mexican and international oil service companies, power and project developers and sponsors, financial institutions, investment bankers and private equity funds, construction companies and governmental entities in projects and cross-border transactions and negotiations.
Standard Chartered appoints Skelton as Global Head of Banking
Standard Chartered has appointed Paul Skelton as Global Head of Banking. Skelton will assume the newly-created role in December 2016, reporting to Simon Cooper, CEO, Corporate and Institutional Banking. He will be based in Singapore. Skelton is a 30-year banking veteran with extensive experience dealing with corporate and institutional clients in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. He joins Standard Chartered from HSBC where he spent 28 years, most recently as Regional Head of Commercial Banking for its Asia Pacific business.
Reinhart joins Magnum Hunter as CEO
Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. has hired John K. Reinhart as president and CEO of the company. Reinhart has more than 22 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with the last 10 years focused in upstream exploration, development and production activities primarily in the Marcellus and Utica Shales in Ohio and West Virginia. Prior to joining the company, Reinhart served as executive vice president and COO of Ascent Resources LLC from 2014 to 2016. Prior to Ascent, Reinhart worked for Chesapeake Energy for eight years in increasing roles of importance, culminating in his role as senior vice president - operations and technical services from 2013 to 2014. Prior to Chesapeake, Reinhart worked for Schlumberger for 11 years in various engineering and operational leadership roles. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1994.
Roof to lead new Houston office of AlixPartners
AlixPartners, a global business-advisory firm, has opened an office in Houston, Texas. The office is the firm's 25th worldwide, and its ninth in the US. The Houston office will be led by Becky Roof, a managing director at AlixPartners and local market leader for the Houston region. Roof joined the firm in 1998 and has provided advisory and C-suite interim-management services for companies in various industries including interim CFO of Eastman Kodak, interim global controller of LyondellBasell, chief restructuring officer of Taro Pharmaceutical Industries, CRO of ERG Resources and, currently, a senior role advising C&J Energy Services. The Houston office will initially be home to 25 professionals including three other managing directors - Bill Ebanks, David Hindman and Larry Young - as well as 12 directors.
Siluria appoints Trout as CEO
Robert Trout has been named CEO of Siluria Technologies, a provider of process technologies for the energy and petrochemical industries. Trout will join Siluria's board of directors. Trout brings almost 30 years of experience to the company. He has spent his entire career at Royal Dutch Shell, most recently as the president of Criterion Catalysts & Technologies where he was responsible for overall integrated strategy related to Shell's catalyst and licensing businesses, and directly accountable for the global refining catalyst business. Trout takes over for Erik Scher, who had been serving as Interim CEO and president. Scher remains part of the company's executive team.
Little promoted to EVP, Wagner named interim CFO of Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil Corp. has promoted T. Mitch Little to executive vice president, operations. He will oversee the company's resource play and conventional businesses. Before his most recent position as vice president, conventional, Little served as managing director of Marathon Oil Norge AS and general manager, worldwide drilling and completions. He joined the company in 1986. Cathy Krajicek, formerly vice president of technology and innovation, has accepted the role of vice president, conventional. Bruce McCullough, formerly vice president and chief information officer, has accepted the role of vice president, technology and innovation, and retains his role as chief information officer. Lance Robertson, vice president, resource plays, has elected to leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Additionally, J.R. Sult, executive vice president and CFO, has elected to leave the company for personal reasons following a transition period. Pat Wagner has been appointed interim CFO while the company conducts a search for a new CFO. Wagner, vice president of corporate development and strategy, joined Marathon Oil in 2014 and has held senior roles at QR Energy LP, Scotia Waterous, and Devon Energy Corp.
