Coastal Flow Measurement recently hosted its 2nd annual "Crawin' for the Cure" crawfish boil benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). As the Houston-based family of companies continues to grow—now ranked among the largest energy measurement services and software providers in the world—so, too, does its involvement with CFF.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the US (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.

This year's "Crawin' for the Cure" event, held Saturday, May 5, in Deer Park, TX, welcomed families to an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil featuring live music by the Easy Money Band that also included a crawfish eating contest, a silent auction, games, a moonwalk for the kids, and a door prize drawing.

The impressive $14,000 raised at the event goes to CFF to help maintain the non-stop effort to develop the means to control and someday cure cystic fibrosis, and to improve the quality of life for the children and adults afflicted with this chronic, debilitating disease.

In the 1950's, few children with Cystic Fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended the lives of those living with the disease. Many people with Cystic Fibrosis can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s, and beyond.

A loyal customer of over 30 years, Copano Energy, led the way for Coastal Flow Measurement's involvement with CFF. In 2010, Copano invited Coastal Flow to help sponsor "Cast for the Cure," a fishing tournament linked to the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"For a loyal customer of over thirty years, we signed up, and Coastal Flow attended its first fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis in 2010. I was hooked from the start," explained Mark Fillman, COO of Coastal Flow.

"I met parents who have to live every day with the thought of surviving their children. I met children who literally struggle to breathe. From that moment, I made a decision to become a part of the effort to wipe out a disease that takes children's lives and devastates families. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is doing a remarkable job adding tomorrows every day to the lives of people with CF and we at Coastal Flow are honored to be a part of that effort," he said.

Fillman and Coastal Flow Measurement are now dedicated to the cause. By the end of 2012, the Coastal Flow Measurement family of companies will have donated more than $100,000 since first becoming involved with CFF in 2010. In addition to Copano Energy's "Cast for the Cure," and Coastal Flow Measurement's "Crawin for the Cure," Coastal Flow Measurement is launching the online charity auction "Click for the Cure" as part of its continued efforts to raise money for CFF.

"Click for the Cure" went live August 1, 2012. All proceeds from the ongoing auction will be donated directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Costal Flow Measurement's auction website (http://coastalflow.com/cfauction/default.aspx) and Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/crawinforthecure) list the items being auctioned. Weekend vacation packages, autographed memorabilia, and tickets to various sports and entertainment events are all up for grabs to the highest bidder. Supporters are invited to add items to be auctioned at any time by contacting Kendra Spriggs at Coastal Flow by phone (800-231-9741) or e-mail at [email protected].
