HOUSTON, Feb. 12 -- The start of drilling by the Ensco 8502 ultradeepwater semisubmersible rig in the Gulf of Mexico has been delayed into this year’s third quarter.
Ensco International PLC said the rig, built by Keppel FELS Ltd. in Singapore, had a fire in the engine room while being prepared in Singapore for mobilization. No one was injured.
The rig was to have begun work under a 2-year contract with a subsidiary of Nexen Inc. late in the second quarter (OGJ, Jan. 25, 2010, Newsletter).
