HOUSTON, Feb. 12
– Petroleo Brasileiro SA reported a postsalt discovery in 200 m of water in the Campos basin off Brazil.

The 4-PM-33 exploratory well 6 km from the Pampo field platform cut 128 m of continuous pay containing 20° gravity oil in Albian carbonates with excellent porosity and permeability. The well is to go on production at 3,000 b/d later this year through either the Pampo or Bicudo platform.

The discovery opens an important exploratory front east of the Pampo and Bicudo concessions, Petrobras said.

The company said the discovery is the result of a strategy to intensify work in areas adjacent to fields already in production to take advantage of existing facilities, reduce production costs, and speed the addition of new production volumes.
