HOUSTON, Feb. 22 – Norwood Resources Ltd., Vancouver, BC, is “pursuing strategies” for drilling a new well near its San Bartolo well in western Nicaragua where hydraulic fracturing could be used to potentially obtain commercial production from various zones.
Zones 7 and 9 at 6,249-95 ft and 6,060-83 ft, respectively, in the San Bartolo-1X2 sidetrack yielded quantities sufficient to consider fracture stimulation or horizontal laterals to obtain commercial production rates. Zone 11b at 5,932-65 ft and Zone 6 at 6,370-6,428 ft also had indications of oil.
A swab test of Zone 7 of 404 hr over 35 days recovered 1,289 bbl of fluid, of which 241 bbl was 38.5° gravity oil. Flow rates averaged 99 b/d of fluid, 13.5 b/d oil, and oil cut averaged 30% in the stabilized part of the flow period.
Norwood is plugging and abandoning the Las Mesas, Maderas Negras, and San Bartolo wells in accordance with government environmental regulations. The company believes the results “overcome the stigma of the testing failure during the 2008 program and are pursuing several options to capitalize on the significant potential of the concession in order to develop commercial oil production in Nicaragua.”
