PARIS, Feb. 15 -- GDF Suez reported a second natural gas discovery in the West El Burullus (WEB) production-sharing contract area off Egypt's Nile Delta. The first gas discovery was WEB-1X in 2008.

The Papyrus well was drilled to a total depth of 1,990 m in 20 m of water about 15 km off Alexandria. The well targeted a prospect with good quality gas-bearing sands. Production tests yielded a peak flow rate of 930,000 cu m/day of gas and 442 b/d of condensate.

A third prospect, Bamboo, will be drilled 5 km from WEB-1X at a deeper depth in order to explore a new area.

GDF Suez serves as operator of the WEB PSC area. Partner Dana Petroleum PLC holds an equal percentage in the area.
