HOUSTON, May 28
– Emerald Energy PLC has spud the Mirto-2 exploratory well on the 90,459-acre Maranta Block in the Putumayo basin foreland in southwestern Colombia.

The well is projected to 11,604 ft measured depth to test the Villeta N, U, and T sands. All three sands tested oil with 68-97% water cut in the N and T sands and 26% water cut in the U sand in the Mirto-2 well, which is now producing 120 b/d of 31.5° gravity oil with 82% water cut after remedial work.

La Cortez Energy Inc., Bogota, has asked Emerald to request that Colombian regulators to assign La Cortez a 20% working interest in the block.
