HOUSTON, May 5
– CC Energy Development SAL and Tethys Oil AB have spud the Saiwan East-3 appraisal well in Block 4 in eastern Oman.

The well is being drilled as part of the appraisal and development of the Neoproterozoic Khufai formation in the Saiwan East structure when the Saiwan East-2 well found 27 m of oil-bearing reservoir (OGJ Online, Oct. 22, 2009). SE-3 is 1,200 m southeast of SE-2 and was chosen from recently shot 3D seismic.

CCED and Tethys will drill vertical pilot hole to 1,800 m and log extensively. They will kick off a horizontal hole to a maximum of 1,000 m and run a submersible pump for production tests.

The well’s other objectives are to retrieve a core of the Khufai and acquire a full log suite.
