HOUSTON, May 13 – TAG Oil Ltd., Vancouver, BC, said it improved oil and gas production from the Cheal-A7 well more than 3.5 times to 292 b/d of oil equivalent by administering a 17-ton frac job on the Miocene Mount Messenger formation.
It was the company’s first frac stimulation since it acquired a 100% interest in the field in late 2009. The well is choked to minimize frac sand flowback and is expected to take 2 weeks to clean up.
TAG has a large inventory of prospects identified on 3D seismic on the lightly explored Cheal Production License and plans a drilling campaign that will include horizontal drilling with multistage fracturing combined with downhole heating and advanced recovery technologies.
